Hello everyone! I've just joined this community, so I thought It would be appropriate to talk a little bit about why and what I do. I'm an artist who is currently working on discovering what my multi-racial heritage means to me. Mainly, I am Odawa indian, Mexican, French and Swiss. I was raised by my mother's side of the family, and have only known the Odawa (of which my mom and grandma are card carrying members), and Swiss . . . although I lived in Los Angeles half my life, I have not specificly gotten in touch with my Mexican side. What I do know about my father is from a brief conversation with him on the phone about ten years ago. In his words we are "Mexican from Mexico, NOT SPANISH." I have no Idea where or what. When I get out of school I plan on infultrating myself in Michigan where the Odawa band is located, and doing a bit of cultural ethnography, and using this information to propell my artwork. Mainly my work consists of beadwork, quillwork, use of bones and death imagery, rituals, and wood. I listen to my dreams, and have been inspired by things that come to me in the night. I will be updating my website soon as to include more recent work, but for now you can see some of my studies at http://www.friedliarts.com . Tell me what you think! I'm intrested in hearing how everyone here has delt with what nature has given them.
